Prepare your Firebase project

Create the Cloud Storage bucket where your update packages will live.

Step 1. Enable Cloud Storage

  1. 1
Open the Firebase console and create or select a project.
  2. 2
Go to Build → Storage → Get started and create the default bucket. Choose a location close to your users.
  3. 3
New buckets (<project>.firebasestorage.app) require the Blaze (pay-as-you-go) plan.

Step 2. Security rules

Your Storage rules can stay locked down. FireOTA writes with the Google authorization you grant it, and devices download through per-file tokenised links — no public bucket is needed.

Firebase SDK in the app

Tip: You do not need to add the Firebase SDK to your React Native app for OTA updates.
