Before you begin

What you need in place before adding FireOTA to an app.

Requirements

  • A bare React Native app, version 0.73 or newer, with android/ and ios/ folders.
  • A Firebase project you own, and a Google account with Owner or Editor access to it.
  • Node.js 18.17+ on the machine or CI runner that publishes updates.
  • Hermes or JSC — both work. The CLI detects Hermes and compiles bytecode automatically.

Expo projects

Note: Expo Go is not supported. Run npx expo prebuild to generate the native folders, then follow the bare React Native steps. Do not use FireOTA together with expo-updates — two update systems would fight over the bundle.

SDK status

Important: The SDK (@fireota/react-native) and CLI (@fireota/cli) are in beta (0.x): verified on Android with React Native 0.87; iOS is implemented but not yet device-tested. Test the full flow on a real device with a release build before relying on it in production.
